The Hillside Neighbourhood Centre

As part of the first phase of the Revive regeneration programme, it was agreed that a brand-new community centre would be built to serve local residents. The result was the Hillside Neighbourhood Centre — a vibrant and welcoming hub designed to meet the evolving needs of the North Huyton community.

Charity and partner HIYA regularly put on activities and events at the Hillside Neighbourhood Centre which are well attended by children and the local community.

The centre is owned by NHCF and operated by HIYA (Huyton Initiative 4 Youth Activities), a long-standing local charity rooted in the Stockbridge Ward in North Huyton, who have a long-term lease on the building. HIYA deliver a wide range of services through a small but passionate team of staff and volunteers, supporting young people, families and older residents.

The centre offers a variety of high-quality indoor and outdoor spaces, including:

  • A computer suite
  • Arts and crafts room
  • Games room
  • Grass Area
  • Kitchen and office space
  • Two multi-purpose rooms

These facilities are primarily used by HIYA to run projects and services, but they are also available to other local groups and residents for events, activities, and private functions. The centre sits alongside The Avenue Play Area, a well-used playground maintained by NHCF and is surrounded by green space, making it a lively and accessible venue for all ages. A local newsagent’s is also located on-site.

Ongoing Support and Sustainability

HIYA originally received core funding through the New Deal for Communities (NDC) programme, and NHCF continues to provide ongoing support to sustain both the centre and its activities. Additional funding streams such as the HAF (Holiday Activities and Food) programme and SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Programme) help deliver targeted support for low-income families, especially during school holidays.

The Hillside Neighbourhood Centre remains a cornerstone of community life in North Huyton, providing a safe, inclusive space where people of all ages can connect, learn and find support.
