The Gate Community Centre

As part of its commitment to sustainable regeneration, NHCF facilitated an asset exchange with Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council (KMBC) to take full ownership of The Gate Community Centre.

The Gate Community Centre is a well-attended hub in North Huyton, providing a range of activities for different members of the community.

This vital community asset is leased long-term to L14 Community House Ltd, a grassroots organisation that delivers a broad range of community services from the centre. The building includes several multi-functional rooms and office space, which are used both for L14-led services and for hire by local groups, social clubs and service providers.

L14 was originally funded through the New Deal for Communities (NDC) programme and continues to receive core funding from NHCF to help sustain youth and community engagement, centre management and targeted support for vulnerable groups.

Investment & Expansion

In recent years, The Gate has undergone a significant transformation, thanks to a £1m grant from the Youth Investment Fund (YIF). This funding enabled a major expansion of the centre, extending the facility by a third and the creation of a dedicated multi-sport and recreational space, as well as the modernisation of existing areas to include a new learning and training suite.

These upgrades have enhanced the centre’s role as a welcoming, inclusive space for local residents of all ages and backgrounds.

Activities & Services at The Gate

L14 deliver a wide range of programmes and support services, including:

  • Carers Groups
